Today Mimsy transitioned to the next phase of her journey and I told her I would honor her as she traveled…so this one’s for you Mims!
She and I started preparing for this event over a month ago and most of the tears have passed. We decided we wanted this to be a celebration for her and in the end that’s just what it was and is. It was 5 years & 5 months ago that this fiery being got my attention at the dog-park and November marked the 5 year anniversary of her adoption…and oh what a journey it has been.
Those that had the privilege of meeting her can attest to the massiveness of her spirit and how it was always much bigger than the tiny broken down body she wore (the limited use of her hind legs rarely slowed her down or stopped her from trying pretty much anything). This gal continuously showed us that you can accomplish much when you put your mind to it (or if you can’t, just convince a human to make it happen. lol).
She was a happy, energetic, sweet & spicy being and was an amazing companion and superb teacher. What I learned from Mimsy: compassion, courage, bravery, grace, tolerance, trust, confidence, humor, laughter, acceptance, tenacity, loyalty, relaxation, affection, sweetness, dignity, honor, unconditional LOVE, strength, use your voice, sing, awareness, adaptation, gentle whines can communicate so much (when you listen), pay attention, what you see is MORE than what you are seeing and exceeding perceived limitations. I know there are still more lessons to come…we will just be experiencing each other a bit differently.
As we chatted about what it will be like where she is going, we decided it would be a place where she had the ability to run UP stairs (she mastered going down stairs), jumping UP on couches was a requirement, she will be able to catch rabbits & other critters (she was fast and the use of 4 legs will make her turbo fast), there will be lots of fluffy blankets to cover herself, napping in warm sunshine whenever she wants…ahhhh!, romping with other dogs, kitty’s & whoever else will play, play, play. I have a feeling she will be quite busy wherever she arrives and it will be a challenge to get her attention…sounds like paradise to me!!!
I am so grateful for this beautiful being for choosing me! In honoring her fun, sweet & spicy spirit, I am sharing her picture from July 4, 2010 just before she walked the 2 mile parade with her red, white & blue cart (yes, she walked the full parade and received a few awesome cheers & standing ovations along the way)…her smile says it all!!! When you see her beautiful grin, you will understand that this is a time to celebrate her freedom, so in lieu of condolences, help me congratulate Mimsy on her accomplishments and for safe & happy travels.
Shine on & Carry on Mimsy!!!
With LOVE & Appreciation,
Your human…~Kara <3 (and Amos & Henry too!) :)
